Here at Edinburgh Instruments, we are proud of all our employees for all they do behind the scenes, so we thought it was time to put them in the spotlight. This series does exactly that; you get a sneak peek into what drives, excites and enamours our team. We hope you enjoy it!
Meet Craig Smith, Digital Content Officer here at Edinburgh Instruments. Craig’s role is a dynamic mix of creative content production, from filming and editing videos to designing motion graphics, alongside managing YouTube channels with a keen eye on SEO and performance analysis.
What does a typical day/ week in your role look like?
No two weeks are ever quite the same, and that’s one of the things I enjoy about my role. Most weeks involve a healthy mix of collaboration and creativity. I’ll usually start with meetings—either catching up with stakeholders or evaluating where my work week will be progressing.
Then it’s into the creative side of things—filming tutorials, editing videos, designing motion graphics, and making sure everything we produce looks polished and professional. I also manage our YouTube channels, so there’s time spent uploading content, crafting SEO-friendly descriptions and titles, and keeping an eye on analytics to see how things are performing. It’s a varied role that keeps me thinking creatively while also staying connected to the bigger picture.
Where would we find you on the weekend?
When I’m not at work, I’m usually still creating—but in different ways. I’m a big fan of woodworking and spend a lot of time commandeering my dad’s garage workshop hand-crafting electric guitars. It’s a really satisfying hobby that gives me a chance to switch off and focus on something physical. I also paint from time to time and love hiking with my dog Mikka —especially on the weekends when I can get out into nature for a few hours which feeds into my other hobby of photography and videography when Mikka isn’t pulling me off path to chase rabbits or mice.
As mentioned, I’m really passionate about videography outside of work, and I run my own YouTube channel where I share tips, reviews, and behind-the-scenes content about filmmaking and photography. It’s a great creative outlet and gives me a space to experiment with new techniques and ideas.
