ICAVS 2025 | Edinburgh Instruments to attend in Xiamen, China.

We are pleased to announce that Edinburgh Instruments will be attending ICAVS 2025 which will be taking place from 30 November – 5 December in Xiamen, China.

The International Conference on Advanced Vibrational Spectroscopy (ICAVS) is a major global event for researchers in the field, covering a wide range of techniques such as mid- and near-infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and nonlinear methods. The upcoming 13th ICAVS will be a joint conference with the 5th International Conference on Enhanced Spectroscopy (ICES5), held together in Xiamen, China, from November 30 to December 5, 2025. This joint event brings together academic and industrial experts to present new findings, exchange ideas, and foster innovation across all areas of vibrational spectroscopy. Historically, ICAVS has featured multiple parallel sessions, a format that will continue, though the associated ICES symposium will maintain its tradition as a single-session event. This will be the first time China has hosted these significant spectroscopic events.

Advanced Photoluminescence Spectroscopy & Microscopy of Solar Cell Materials

The race to develop efficient, stable, and cost-effective solar cells depends on understanding materials at the microscopic and molecular levels. In this webinar, I will explore how photoluminescence spectroscopy and microscopy can be applied to analyse and screen potential solar cell materials. We’ll look at techniques including time-resolved photoluminescence, quantum yield measurements, and fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) – each offering unique insights into material quality, defect states, and charge carrier behaviour.

If you’re working in solar energy, materials research, or simply want to know how advanced characterisation techniques like time-resolved PL, quantum yield measurements, and FLIM are unlocking the next generation of photovoltaics, this is a must-attend event.

In our upcoming webinar, we’ll walk through several case studies showing how multimodal microscopy is being used in both research and industry:

 

  • Simultaneous Raman and PL imaging in silicon wafers.
  • Doping, polytype, and defect mapping in SiC power electronics.
  • Correlated Raman/PL imaging of GaN LEDs.
  • Carrier dynamics in perovskites using FLIM.
  • Correlated Raman, PL, and photocurrent imaging in organic solar cells.
  • Full-wafer analysis for uniformity and process control.

 

We’ll also show how instruments like the RM5 and RMS1000 are configured for these workflows, equipped with multiple lasers and automated mapping systems to make these measurements accessible and repeatable.
