Celebrating our 50th Anniversary: Zach Nilsson

As we continue to highlight our staff during our 50th Anniversary celebrations, this month we would like to introduce Zach Nilsson, our new Optical Product Engineer. We caught up with Zach to find out what interested him to work within the industry and the hobbies he has outside of work.

What inspired you to pursue a scientific career?

I became interested in this industry after using an FS5 in grad school. I also participated in the installation of the system with the previous US Engineer for EI. It was a positive experience and I decided that it was a job that I would enjoy.

What are you most looking forward to now working with Edinburgh Instruments?

What I am most looking forward to is being able to travel round the US more than I ever have. I am also excited to get to learn about, and work on, all the instruments that I haven’t used before.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I enjoy woodworking and tinkering with electronics. I also enjoy playing computer games.

Tell us something most people don’t know about you?

I have recently started racing RC cars. I haven’t had much time for it in this year since I was finishing up my Ph.D but I am excited to get going again.

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

You would probably find me building something in the garage or playing a video game.

Do you have any goals you would like to achieve for 2021?

My goal is to gain the knowledge I need to be an effective member of the Edinburgh Instruments team and hopefully not cause too many issues along the way.
