Role: Optical Product Engineer (Customer Support – USA)

Location: USA (home-based in East coast, with travel)

We  are looking to recruit an Optical Product Engineer to support our expanding Fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy instrumentation business. The role is home-based with significant travel throughout North America (mainly) and Latin America.

What You’ll Be Doing? 

In this role, you will be responsible for providing service and support to our customers as well as the technical sales specialists in our Americas sales team. This is primarily a technical role for those with good knowledge of optical spectroscopy who are seeking to apply it to a commercial setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the customer support team (based near Edinburgh, Scotland) to visit customer sites for system installations, user training, service and maintenance.
  • Provide technical and service support to existing end-users both remotely (via phone, email or TeamViewer) and on customer site.
  • Maintain thorough and timely documentation for example: field service reports, service quotes and follow-up summaries .
  • Proactively engage with customers to ensure a high level of satisfaction – maintaining regular communication, following up on open issues, and coordinating remote sessions to troubleshoot or answer questions.
  • Strengthen existing customer relationships across the Americas by providing excellent post-sales support and serving as a reliable technical contact.
  • Write research highlights based on customer publications that showcase instrument use and achievements.
  • Regular meetings with the Americas sales manager to discuss customer status and feedback, service activities and support needs. Ensure the CRM is kept current and accurate for reports.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing and process improvement initiatives within the global support team.
  • Analysis of service market trends and customer feedback to help identify common service needs or areas for potential improvement.
  • Flexibility to travel nationally and internationally (up to 70%, predominantly in North America) to install instruments, service/support visits, team meetings and occasionally attend exhibitions and visit headquarters in the UK.
  • Be the expert in this field, partaking in proactive customer interactions to promote the Edinburgh Instrument’s product and spectroscopy solutions.

 

 

What You’ll Need to Bring?

  • Bachelor’s degree in a physical science discipline. A higher degree such as an MSc/PhD in Chemistry, Material Science, Physics would be a distinct advantage.
  • Previous research experience using optical spectroscopy techniques such as photoluminescence or Raman spectroscopy/microscopy.
  • Experience of these spectroscopy techniques at a component level, such as building an optical system in a lab, would be a particular advantage.
  • Enthusiasm, confidence and professionalism with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong focus on customer service, responsiveness and follow through are essential.
  • Self-motivated, able to work under pressure, with the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines with proven analytical and numerical skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision as well as part of a larger team.
  • Excellent technical writing and presentation skills with the ability to clearly document service work.
  • Comfortable using remote support tools (TeamViewer) and CRM systems.

We are looking to recruit a Raman Sales Engineer to support our expanding Raman spectroscopy instrumentation business. The role is home-based with significant travel predominantly in the USA with occasional international travel.

What You’ll Be Doing?

Reporting to the Sales & Marketing Manager for the Americas, in this role you will play an important part in educating scientists and driving interest for the Company’s products. You will be responsible for a wide variety of sales-related functions including selling the Company’s entire Raman product line with a consultative sales approach.  Ensuring consistent, profitable growth in sales revenues for defined regions through proactive outbound prospecting and effective management of the existing customer base.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Promote and sell the company’s Raman products within the assigned territory and/or market segments to achieve sales targets.
  • Qualify leads, develop customer interest in our instrumentation and actively follow them through to closure to meet or exceed targets.
  • Generate accurate and timely quotations using CRM and quotation software, ensuring all customer interactions are documented in the sales database to support forecasting and pipeline management.
  • Provide timely sales forecasts and reports as requested.
  • Identify and engage with new groups in academia, government and industry to promote products using a combination of outbound outreach, inbound lead follow-up and networking.
  • Analysis of the market in the USA to identify growth opportunities, new applications and funding trends.
  • Liaise with internal teams to deliver technical demonstrations, development of bespoke configurations.
  • Represent the company at trade shows, conferences and customer events to elevate the brand and identify new sales opportunities.
  • Strengthen existing customer relationships and develop new relationships within the Americas research community.

What You’ll Need to Bring?

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a physical science discipline. Chemistry, Material Science, Physics and understanding/knowledge of optical test and measurement would be a distinct advantage.
  • Proven sales experience, understanding of the academic sales process and pipeline management a plus.
  • Understanding of optical spectroscopy techniques such as photoluminescence or Raman spectroscopy/microscopy is strongly desired.
  • Capability to provide simple solutions to technical problems based on customer requirements.
  • Enthusiasm, confidence and professionalism with excellent communication and interpersonal skills is an important part of this role.
  • Responsiveness and focus, combined with attention to detail are essential.
  • Self-motivated, able to work under pressure, with the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines with proven analytical and numerical skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision as well as part of a larger team.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Must have flexibility to travel nationally and internationally to visit customer sites and attend conferences to promote products. Travel is expected to be up to 50% of the time, predominantly in the USA with occasional international travel.
  • Must also have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Job Role: Finance Assistant

Edinburgh Instruments are looking to recruit a Finance Assistant to join our Livingston Headquarters.

What You’ll Be Doing?

 The Finance Assistant will support the Finance Team in the day-to-day maintenance, reporting and management of the Company’s accounts and finances.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the Purchase Ledger
  • Posting and processing invoices, matching them against good receipts and GRNI. Liaising with Purchasing department if any discrepancies or price variance
  • Analyzing the price variance at the end of each month
  • Reconciling and clearing the GRNI
  • Managing mailbox, scanning documents/invoices when necessary
  • Prepare payment run and processing them in the ERP system
  • Resolving queries and respond to supplier’s queries
  • Sending statements and remittances where necessary
  • Month end tasks for Accounts payable
  • Review of aged creditors and reconcile suppliers accounts
  • Providing cover for the Company Credit Card process
  • Allocate cash received to customer accounts
  • Perform credit control activities by contacting customers to establish payment dates for sales invoices.
  • Liaise with debt collection agency when debts are unpaid and use of debt collectors approved by Finance Director
  • Maintaining adequate supporting documentation for all accounting transactions
  • Ad hoc Accounts Payable tasks as required

What You’ll Need to Bring

 To succeed in this role, you’ll bring a mix of relevant experience, skills, and personal qualities, including:

  • Relevant experience working in a finance team or similar environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Previous experience in an accounts payable role is desirable
  • Familiarity with accounting systems is beneficial
  • Strong attention to detail – accurate, thorough, and committed to high-quality work
  • Excellent organisational skills – able to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines effectively
  • A collaborative approach – confident working as part of a team and communicating clearly with colleagues
  • A proactive mindset – takes ownership of tasks and follows them through to completion
