Scintillators play a critical role in airport baggage screening, medical imaging, and particle physics research by converting high-energy radiation into detectable light. Designing efficient, high-performance scintillators depends on a deep understanding of scintillation and radioluminescence (how materials emit UV or visible light when excited by X-rays).

In this webinar, Maria and Tommy will introduce the fundamentals of scintillators and explore how scintillation underpins their real-world applications. You will learn how to characterise radioluminescence in scintillating materials, from spectral analysis to advanced time-resolved measurements. We are pleased to announce that Edinburgh Instruments will be attending ICAVS 2025 which will be taking place from 30 November – 5 December in Xiamen, China.

The International Conference on Advanced Vibrational Spectroscopy (ICAVS) is a major global event for researchers in the field, covering a wide range of techniques such as mid- and near-infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and nonlinear methods. The upcoming 13th ICAVS will be a joint conference with the 5th International Conference on Enhanced Spectroscopy (ICES5), held together in Xiamen, China, from November 30 to December 5, 2025. This joint event brings together academic and industrial experts to present new findings, exchange ideas, and foster innovation across all areas of vibrational spectroscopy. Historically, ICAVS has featured multiple parallel sessions, a format that will continue, though the associated ICES symposium will maintain its tradition as a single-session event. This will be the first time China has hosted these significant spectroscopic events.

Advanced Photoluminescence Spectroscopy & Microscopy of Solar Cell Materials

The race to develop efficient, stable, and cost-effective solar cells depends on understanding materials at the microscopic and molecular levels. In this webinar, I will explore how photoluminescence spectroscopy and microscopy can be applied to analyse and screen potential solar cell materials. We’ll look at techniques including time-resolved photoluminescence, quantum yield measurements, and fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) – each offering unique insights into material quality, defect states, and charge carrier behaviour.
