Here at Edinburgh Instruments, we are proud of all our employees for all they do behind the scenes, so we thought it was time to put them in the spotlight. This series does exactly that; you get a sneak peek into what drives, excites and enamours our team. We hope you enjoy it!

Let’s get into it

Meet Benjamin Percival, our Industrial placement student here at Edinburgh Instruments. As part of his degree at University of Strathclyde, Ben joined the Applications team for a year long industrial placement.

What has been your journey to get you to where you are now?

I have always been interested in science and studied as many different areas of it as I could through high school, from there I found chemistry to be the most interesting. I then began my integrated masters degree course at the University of Strathclyde. As part of this course an industrial placement is undertaken in the fourth year. I found the work that Edinburgh Instruments does very interesting, so I joined EI as an industrial placement student.

What do you do in your spare time? / Where would we find you on the weekend?

In my spare time, I love to relax by watching movies and catching up on TV shows. I also really enjoy playing video games. On the weekends I try to spend some quality time with my friends and family. I also like to bake (Although I’m not quite Great British Bake-Off level).

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

If I could go anywhere in the world I would love to go to Antarctica. Although it may seem barren and isolated, I think there is beauty in that. It would be amazing to experience a place that so few get to.

Top 5 movies:

  1. Spy
  2. TENET
  3. Zombieland 2
  4. Bullet Train
  5. Shang Chi and the legend of the ten rings
