Production Operator
Role: Production Operator

Edinburgh Instruments are looking to recruit a Production Operator to join our Livingston Headquarters.
What You’ll Be Doing?
Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Production Operator will be responsible for the wiring and electromechanical assembly of Company products, electrical sub-assemblies, and custom designed equipment in accordance with production documentation.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Manufacture, wire and assemble electronic and mechanical components and sub-assemblies and to integrate them into Company products as required.
- Hand soldering – conventional and surface mount.
- Ensure that the specification and manufacturing standard of electronic wiring in the Company complies with required international standards and safety regulations.
- Ensure that all electronic wiring is carried out in compliance with Company formulated Quality procedures.
- Adhere to all internal Company policies and health & safety procedures.
- Liaise with the Inspection and Test areas of the Company and suggest remedies to minimise Non-Conforming Reports and product rework.
- Ensure that all equipment is correctly used, stored, and maintained.
- Any other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need to Bring
- Relevant work experience in electronic wiring, PCB population and assembly coupled with a systematic and thoughtful approach.
- Practical experience in electrical production techniques, PCB assembly, soldering, wiring, crimping, etc.
- Practical experience in wiring sub-assemblies and looms with minimum supervision from wiring schedules and diagrams.
- The ability to recognise standard electronic components both conventional and surface mount.
- Experienced in point-to-point wiring of components/assemblies with the ability to recognise electronic components and wire in accordance with schematic diagrams would be beneficial.
- Experience in a mechanical/assembly background, would be advantageous.

Optical Product Engineer
Role: Optical Product Engineer (Operations)
Location: Livingston

Reports To: Product Manager – Operations
Have you recently graduated with a degree in physics or electrical engineering and have a good understanding of optics? Do you have previous research experience using optical spectroscopy techniques? Or perhaps experience at a component level, for example building an optical system in a lab? Are you confident, enthusiastic and enjoy customer interaction and international travel?
If you have answered ‘yes’ to these questions, then this could be the role for you.
What You’ll Be Doing
Reporting into the Product Manager – Operations, this role covers the most important facets of our customer-facing agenda. Coupled with rigorous in-house final-testing of our custom spectrometer products to ensure they meet the demanding specifications.
As a member of the Service & Operations Team, the successful candidate will be enthused to act as an ambassador for our company, and conduct installation, training and service support visits to our customer-base. They will also provide technical support, customer feedback and give views on development strategy relating to our growing product range.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Conduct final test, product installation, training and servicing work for fluorescence spectrometer products at our customer location.
- Undertake the repair and servicing of our fluorescence spectrometer products.
- Responsible for final-stage testing of spectrometer products within production area.
- Involved in the continuing development/improvement of luminescence spectrometers and custom designed analytical instrumentation.
What You’ll Need to Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in a physics or Electrical Engineering with a good knowledge of optics. A higher degree such as an MSc/PhD in Chemistry, Material Science, Physics would be a distinct advantage.
- Previous research experience using optical spectroscopy techniques such as photoluminescence or Raman spectroscopy/microscopy is a benefit.
- Experience of these spectroscopy techniques at a component level, such as building an optical system in a lab, would be a particular advantage.
- A willingness to travel. This role requires a level of extended international travel which may be up to 14 nights at any one time. The travel expectations are around 7 nights per month (after the initial training period of 6 months).
- Takes ownership of customer problems and issues and work to resolve them.
- Capability to provide simple solutions to technical problems and based on customer requirements.
- Enthusiasm, confidence and professionalism with excellent communication and interpersonal skills is an important part of this role.
- Responsiveness and focus, combined with attention to detail are essential.
- Self-motivated, able to work under pressure, with the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines with proven analytical and numerical skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision as well as part of a larger team.
- Excellent technical writing and presentation skills.

Edinburgh Instruments are looking to recruit a Graduate Procurement to join our Livingston Headquarters.
This role is ideally suited to a newly qualified Graduate or equivalent looking to gain experience within Supply Chain with a passion for building a career and be supported to study to gain CIPS.
What You’ll Be Doing
Reporting into the Purchasing Manager, the Graduate Procurement will be given an overview into the procurement department and be expected to develop strong relationships with the supplier base, the internal customer base, and the internal supply chain with a willingness to continue education through CIPS or similar with a view to further enhance career development. You will support the Purchasing Manager in the day-to-day administrational duties ensuring tasks outlined below are completed to deadlines efficiently and accurately along with working closely with our buyers to ensure we are fulfilling our demand planning including forecasting, MRP, ordering & inventory management.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Assist in the sourcing, procurement, negotiation, and administration of material purchasing.
- Maintain and manage the procurement system for indirect purchasing through buying requisitions.
- Support with the preparation of orders, maintenance of supplier database, products, components, and supplier costs.
- Help progress orders to ensure on-time delivery.
- Assist production department in the maintenance and control of stock material and kiting material for the production department.
- Update and act on purchasing reports from MRP system.
- Ensure purchasing system complies with Company operating procedures and to assist in supplier rating surveys.
- Assist in sourcing new suppliers and facilities.
- Obtain a good understanding of the use of our MRP Winman System & key procurement tools across the Procurement life cycle, including planning, sourcing, cost analysis, negotiation, and the creation of all types of purchase orders.
- Assist with implementation of Process Improvements.
- Monitoring and Managing Key Performance Indicators.
- Undertake any other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Be Doing?
The Electronics Design Engineer supports the Project Manager / Program Manager and conducts electronic engineering tasks for new product development, bespoke customer developments and sustainability and product improvement developments.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Undertake the design and development of specified projects / products or sub-systems.
- Produce, maintain, record and ensure safe keeping of computerised design documentation.
- Ensuring the performance and safety of products meet the specified requirements and standards.
- Ensure that projects / developments undertaken comply with international standards, to undertake tests as required and complete the necessary records to meet European requirements for self-certification of Company products (CE mark).
- Provide technical support to other divisions, production or sales teams as required.
- Advise in the specification of electronic aspects of custom designed systems.
- Remain abreast of state-of-the-art electronics technology and products.
- Provide technical support to Production when required (Test/Inspection.)
- Undertake off-site visits for design, consultancy, installation, warranty or maintenance of electronic products, as required.
- Undertake any other duties as required.
What You’ll Need to Bring
- Electrical Engineering degree with experience in a design and manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of manufacturing techniques, with design for manufacture, and design for assembly skills.
- Experience of designing component parts and assemblies.
- Engineering configuration management.

What You’ll Be Doing?
Reporting into the Software Team Leader, the Software Development Engineer’s will be responsible for the design, development, testing, documentation, and maintenance of system software for our newly developed products.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Contribute to the software development of our new products, including graphical user interface, hardware control, data analysis, data base management and software testing.
- Ensuring that all activities comply with Company quality procedures.
- To propose, implement and demonstrate solutions to problems which may not, given the research & development environment, have clearly defined requirements.
- Keep up to date with current technology and advise the Company on issues that may affect performance and success.
What You’ll Need to Bring
- Have a degree in software engineering or a related engineering/science discipline with relevant software development experience.
- Microsoft windows programming experience – specifically in C# (WPF), database management (SQL and SQLite) and entity framework (EF)
- A thorough understanding of object-oriented design methods and patterns
- Demonstrable UI design skills
- Experience of using Source Code Management and Bug tracking tools in a team environment
Other desirable skills include:
- Knowledge of other programming languages such as C++ and Java
- Familiar to agile software development principles and patterns
- Instrumentation – scientific/medical, imaging, hardware interfacing, data acquisition, USB devices, sensors and optical detectors, motor control, etc.

Electrical Engineer at sister company Froilabo

To this end, Froilabo are looking to recruit an Electrical Engineer to join our Livingston R&D centre.
What You’ll Be Doing?
The Electrical Engineer designs, tests, and develops electrical systems for refrigeration products, encompassing component selection, distribution of AC/DC power, signal and control wiring, creation of system cable harnesses and wiring diagrams, ensuring product electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility, and supporting overall product reliability.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Primary engineer for electrical system design: Select components, design system electrical layout and wiring, share in developing unit control systems, ensure the safety and reliability of the electrical subsystem supports the overall system’s safety and reliability.
- Ensure electrical design fulfills relevant regulatory requirements and standards and exceeds them where appropriate.
- Document system wiring and cable harnesses for transfer to production. Ensure product manufacturing and service needs are considered and incorporated during design. Develop test methods for production where appropriate in conjunction with the Production Engineers.
What You’ll Need to Bring
- Relevant experience in electrical engineering design and development, with demonstrated competence in system wiring design and accompanying documentation. Any suitable combination of practical experience and education will be considered, with an emphasis on experience.
- Knowledge of control systems, including relay logic and fail-safe design principles. Demonstrated competence in designing systems to be safe, robust, and reliable, as well as putting in place appropriate testing to prove the same.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards, including electrical safety and EMC, and their implications for design and test; able to identify and apply relevant requirements for markets outside the UK and European Union.
We’d Also Love to See
- Industrial equipment design experience preferred; otherwise, experience with design of systems containing mains-powered rotating equipment, heating elements, etc., preference for products in series production rather than bespoke installations.
- PLC programming experience a plus. Opportunity for growth in this area based on Engineer’s career development interests.
- ATEX or Medical Device design experience a plus.
