Richard Abram
Lasers Group Manager
Richard has over 17 years’ experience working with a broad range of laser technology. He joined Edinburgh Instruments in 2005 as a Senior Laser Scientist and became Division Manager in 2006, with his main focus being directed towards the development of lasers and light sources for the life-science and analytical instrumentation markets. Since restructuring Richard now manages the Laser Group within the newly formed Photonics Division.
Previously within Strathclyde University’s Photonics Group his work had focused on optically pumped semiconductor surface-emitting lasers and stabilisation techniques for high-resolution spectroscopy. Prior to this Richard had worked at Synrad Inc developing industrial Carbon Dioxide lasers and at Marconi Electro-Optics developing IR countermeasures.
Richard received a BSc. degree in physics (with honors) and the PhD degree in Laser Physics from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, U.K.,in 1994 and 1998, respectively. Richard received an Enterprise Fellowship from the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2004.
