Welcome to the Edinburgh Instruments website.

Since it was founded in 1971 as the first private company on Britain's earliest university research park, Edinburgh Instruments has established an international reputation for technical innovation and expertise.

Solving complex applications problems has been Edinburgh Instruments forte for the past four decades. Throughout this period we have amassed a wealth of expertise to apply to unique customer requirements and developed practical, successful and cost effective solutions.

Analytical Instruments

The Analytical Instruments division is closely associated with the technique of Time Correlated Single Photon Counting (TCSPC), where they are recognised world leaders and innovators in the field of fluorescence and phosphorescence lifetime and steady state measurements. Our capabilities include spectrometers with pulsed and cw Vacuum Ultra-Violet (VUV) and X-Ray excitation, spectrometers with CCD Cameras and with microscopes

Newly available are : a fluorescence lifetime teaching kit based on the MiniTau spectrometer and a  steady state plate-reader accessory to our FLS920 range of spectrometers.

Gas sensors

Edinburgh Sensors (a division of Edinburgh Instruments Ltd) has over 15 years experience in developing and manufacturing high quality reliable gas sensors based on non-dispersive infrared technology. Thousands of sensors are now in use throughout the world in a wide variety of applications and environments.

Lasers and Electro-optics

The Laser Division, now into its fourth decade, is synonymous with tuneable, infra-red gas lasers, covering the wavelength range from 5.2 to 6 microns (CO Lasers), 9.1 to -10.9 microns (CO2 Lasers) and 40 to 1200 microns (FIR (THz) Lasers). Having many hundreds of infrared and far infrared lasers in the field, Edinburgh Instruments understands the demands and requirements of its world wide customer base and is committed to the future of infra-red technology.

The division has now launched a series of picosecond pulsed diode lasers. These lasers, with excitation wavelengths currently at 375nm, 405nm, 445nm, 470nm and 635 nm, are a new excitation source for fluorescence lifetime measurements that use time correlated single photon counting as the measurement technique.

Quantum Division

Edinburgh Instruments distributes and supports, on behalf of other manufacturers, various types of CO2 Lasers, DPSS lasers, Titanium Sapphire lasers, measurement systems for femtosecond (fs) kinetic spectroscopy, a wide range of diode lasers, laser diode modules and diagnostic instruments. Terahertz products and integrated systems are also available.
