Lasers and Electro Optics
Division
Manufactured infrared gas lasers include Carbon monoxide
(CO), Carbon dioxide (CO2) and Far infrared
(FIR). These lasers are user replenishable, highly stable,
grating tuned with output radiation being in the wavelength
regions of 5.2-6.0 microns (CO), 9.1-10.9 microns (CO2) and 40 microns - 1.22 mm (FIR).
The division also produces picosecond pulsed semiconductor
sources with the EPL range of pulsed diode lasers exhibiting
pulsewidths less then 100ps from 375nm to 805nm.. The
division has recently launched the EPLED series of
picosecond pulsed LEDs with excitation wavelengths currently
from 265nm to 360nm.
Applications for the infrared gas lasers cover
interferometry, plasma diagnostics, biochemistry,
photochemistry, protein studies, biological and chemical
material analysis, ablation, atmospheric studies, ranging,
spectroscopy, biophysics, solid state physics, material
science etc.
Applications for the picosecond pulsed diode lasers include
fluorescence lifetime measurements that use time correlated
single photon counting as the measurement technique. Typical
instrumentation that require these sources are fluorescence
lifetime spectrometers and fluorescence lifetime multiwell
plate readers for spectroscopy applications in biochemistry,
biology, photophysics, semiconductor physics, bio-chemical
assays etc. Customised versions of the diode lasers can be
also supplied for integration within various types of
analytical instrumentation.

PL Series Grating
Tuned Carbon dioxide (CO2) Lasers from Edinburgh
Instruments
Edinburgh Instruments’ PL series of carbon dioxide
lasers covers spectral range 9.1 to 10.9 microns, with
models having continuous wave (CW) output powers up to
180 Watts. Special isotopic fills to extend the
wavelength spectral range are available on request. |

PL – 3 CO Grating Tuned Carbon
monoxide (CO) Laser from Edinburgh Instruments
The PL - 3 CO operates sealed off on low gain CO
transitions in the range 5.2 to 6.0 microns with an
output power of 1Watt. By changing the cavity optics
and gas mixture, the PL3 can be converted into a
tuneable CO2 laser covering 9-11 microns with 15W
output power.

FIR (TeraHertz) series Optically Pumped Far
Infrared Lasers from Edinburgh Instruments
A choice of FIR lasers from Edinburgh Instruments to
meet applications requiring coherent radiation in the
range of 40 microns to 1.22 mm (0.25 to 7.5 THz). The FIR
(THz) lasers are available with either single output or
dual output versions. Guaranteed output powers in each
output, for example, are 150mW and 500mW at the 118.8
micron and 184.3 micron lines depending on the model of
the Edinburgh Instruments CO2 pump laser used with the
FIR (THz)lasers. |
